This liquor is made with the orange trees the Spanish planted in the Netherlands Antilles; they gave up the plantations when realizing that the oranges grew bitter in the Caribbean area. Someone started using the aromatic peel to distil the alcoholic spirit.

Curious fact: Aqua Velva was a common aftershave used in the past century. It is said that soldiers drank it n the Second World War because of its high alcohol content  and relative good taste. It served as inspiration for the blue cocktail.
